Top 3 Tips For Choosing Earrings
Share
Let’s talk earrings
Why are they important? What should you think about when choosing the perfect pair for your big day? Does it all really matter? Let’s explore all of these questions and more!
First a little history because I find history helps give perspective and if you are going to do something it's nice to be able to make an informed decision about why you are doing it.
So! You may or may not know but the tradition of wearing earrings dates back thousands of years and originates in ancient Asia! Several cultures across the globe have adopted this beautiful form of self-expression with popularity rising and falling across the ages but, the overall trend of wearing earrings remaining ever strong!
So why are earrings so attractive and why did people wear them?
In certain parts of the world like ancient Egypt, earrings were a status symbol separating the wealthy from the poor. However, you would not want to be caught wearing them in Ancient Rome and Greece where they were associated with and worn by slaves!
Interestingly, men also wore earrings more than women did!
In India, of course, the tradition of wearing earrings is as much aesthetic as it is spiritual with ancient Vedic scriptures providing guidance on when and where to pierce ears for both male and female children. Everything from wearing gold to balance energies and wearing silver earrings to eliminate any issues associated with excessive energy flow, all the way through to piercing the ears of babies by their 1st or 3rd birthdays to enhance health and ward off the evil eye.
There are clearly various, intriguing and interesting reasons behind ear piercing across different cultures. Given the human ear has 300 different acupressure points, it is perhaps not surprising, that ear piercing has been and continues to be promoted for health and wellbeing, with the position of piercings being considered crucial.
So why is it important to be selective about how you choose your earrings?
Just as there are different cultural reasons for ear piercing, there are different styles of earrings and, just as different colours or hairstyles suit different people, different earring styles will naturally suit different people. A pair of earrings is very unlikely to look exactly the same on you as they do on someone else, but why is that?
There are three key things to consider when choosing your earrings especially if you want:
- To bring out your best features
- To create a perfectly harmonious look for your wedding day or special occasion
- To be noticed because people notice when a look has been beautifully pulled together with every single detail carefully considered and worn in just the right way
- To feel confident the next time you are out shopping for jewellery whether it is for a special occasion or just because the mood has carried you to!
So let’s get right to it!
There is a reason why some people always dress beautifully embodying elegance and feminine sophistication with what appears to be effortless ease. It has little to do with where they shop and a lot to do with how aware they are of how every single detail has a role to play in the overall look you are creating when you dress yourself. If you already know what I am about to share... Congratulations! You are already a style Queen and you know exactly how to dress yourself according to the overall look you want to communicate and the vibe you want to create.
If you did not already know this well... it is my hope and wish for you to find yourself being able to shop with confidence after you have read this blog, with a deeper understanding of what you might have been missing in your previous attempts to elevate your look.
TOP TIP NUMBER 1: Discover Your Face Shape
This one might come as a shock to you but, it is very frequently overlooked when considering everything from your hairstyle to your earrings to your makeup application and even the necklines of the outfits you choose to wear!
BUT! Face shape is IMPORTANT!
Have you ever had the feeling where you see a pair of earrings or a necklace on someone else and then go to try the same piece yourself only to find it does not look nearly as breathtakingly beautiful on you as it did on them? This has very little to do with you and so much more to do with your face shape!
Depending on your face shape certain styles and shapes of earrings will look better than others. The last thing you want is to choose a pair which makes your face look fat or accentuates the features you dislike most about your face!
So go on, take a closer look at yourself in the mirror and familiarise yourself with your face shape. Looking for a detailed guide with links to help you figure out how to do this? Read this!
TOP TIP NUMBER 2: Consider your hairstyle
Yes! It is incredibly important to consider your hairstyle for any function or special occasion. BUT! It is even more important to consider it for your wedding day, not just to ensure you are comfortable or to achieve your desired bridal look but...
- To ensure the jewellery you have selected will actually look best when worn with this hairstyle
TOP TIP NUMBER 3: Necklines!
The neckline of your outfit will have a huge impact on your overall look. We all know certain necklines look better on us compared to others. Whether you know this consciously or not, you will find yourself drawn to certain necklines more than you are drawn to others. What you may not know is how important it is to pair your neckline with the right hairstyle and carefully selected pieces of jewellery to have you looking your very best!
Pair the wrong piece of jewellery with the wrong neckline and hairstyle and you end up looking like a hot mess with people being unsure where to look first because there is just too much going on in all of the wrong places!
So what can you do about it?
Well you can experiment and explore this yourself BUT this takes time and can be a costly exercise with little to no guarantee of achieving your dream look at the end of all of that hard work.
OR...
You could work with a jewellery expert! Working with a jewellery expert who not only designs but, also creates pieces of jewellery has several benefits. You can make be confident you are:
