Empowering Individuals with Metal Allergies Through Bespoke Bead Jewellery
Share
Jewellery is a cherished form of self-expression, but for those with metal allergies, it can feel out of reach. As a metal allergy surfaces in your life, you can end up feeling like you might never be able to enjoy pieces of jewellery that have any where near the same luxurious high end look as the pieces you enjoyed before.
But a metal allergy should not signal the end of your journey with jewellery. It can signal the beginning of a more beautiful journey on which you discover the beauty of metal free jewellery designed and created to be every bit as luxurious, high end and eye-catchingly beautiful as metal based counterparts, perhaps even more!
How do I know this? Thanks to Clare!
Clare was the winner of my 2023 giveaway prize draw which featured a stunning one of a kind pair of earrings. When Clare discovered she had won, she asked me to redraw the winner's name explaining she had recently been diagnosed with a metal allergy and would be unable to wear the earrings she had won. I couldn't let her miss out on this opportunity, after all can you imagine winning a high quality, luxury piece of jewellery only to have to turn down your prize because of something outside of your control?
I put myself in Clare's shoes and tried to imagine how she might be feeling. I quickly found myself wondering where she would be able to source metal free jewellery. I wondered whether she would ever find a piece that truly reflected her style and personality in the small pool of possible options available in the marketplace. At the time I could only imagine her being able to wear either button or macramé pieces of jewellery which, whilst very beautiful, hardly scream high end, luxury jewellery!
I had wanted to explore metal free jewellery long before Clare provided me with the opportunity to begin. When Clare came along it was a sign for me to stop waiting and get exploring!
I wanted to create a luxurious bespoke piece that would reconnect Clare with her love for jewellery, one that she could wear comfortably for any and all occasions, including everyday, and which captured her style. So I incorporated her favourite colours designing a beautiful bracelet using glass seed beads which I was confident would not cause any discomfort. For added security, I ensured her skin only touched the crochet elements I meticulously hand crafted just for her. Knowing she would need a clasp, I came up with the creative solution of using buttons—something familiar yet unique.
When Clare received her bracelet, her joy was palpable. Knowing she wears it often, embracing both casual and special occasions, fills me with gratitude. Her heartfelt review reminded me why I create: to help others rediscover their love for jewellery, no matter the challenges life presents.
Clare's Review: 'Receiving a piece of jewellery from Megha is a very special experience. Megha is a jewellery designer that puts the customer at the heart of each piece she makes. I cannot wear jewellery that contains metal, but this was no problem for Megha. She took note of my favourite colours and was able to handcraft me a beautiful bracelet made entirely from glass beads and cotton. Not only that, but she worked her magic to create a clasp that fastens with buttons (no metal used at all!). The bracelet is very comfortable to wear and it fits perfectly. The attention to detail in the design is superb. Hundreds of small beads are stitched and crocheted together to produce a sumptuous bracelet. This is already my favourite piece of jewellery! It looks fabulous when worn with a casual outfit and wonderful when worn for a special occasion. It feels bespoke, it looks bespoke and it is bespoke. How wonderful to have a piece of jewellery that was designed and made just for me. A piece of jewellery that is unique. Thank you Megha! I LOVE my bracelet.'
Jewellery should always celebrate who you are, offering comfort and elegance without compromise. If you’re navigating a similar journey, remember—there are beautiful, high-quality pieces waiting to be crafted just for you.
Because your jewellery should always be more than just an afterthought.
With love,
Megha
